We all have information to share; however, getting that information to a target market can be challenging. Book printing is an excellent way to share this information, but is often cost prohibitive due to price or maximum quantities that must be ordered. Having a “personal printer” would be a giant advantage, allowing the ability to print only the desired quantities, to have color printing as an affordable option, and speedy turn time are finally obtainable to everyone.

New advances in technologies have made digital printing an affordable, viable alternative to traditional print houses that need maximum quantities to cover overhead such as setup of plates, inks, and presses. Book printing is an excellent method of relaying specific information to a target market. It can be used for marketing or informational purposes. Company directories, event schedules, or handouts for a lecture are all excellent applications for this method. There are limitations on number of pages, but in those cases, a book may be a better application.

This is as exciting of a leap as Guttenberg’s invention of the printing press. To be able to get ideas huge or little out to the masses in printed form for everyone to have access to them. The custom printing features such as mail merge permit even little businesses or individuals to personalize the information to their target market. Everyone likes to be spoken to personally, not be an anonymous recipient of information that is blasted at the masses. The digital printing revolution has evolved to the point of being a serious competitor to press printing. It allows for low cost, custom print runs that are of excellent quality at a fraction of the price, more often as not even more cost effective as desktop publishing. All this can be done in a fraction of the time it took line presses because of the digital input.

A user can send a done book for printing and have exactly what they envisioned without the press operator changing the author’s work. There is also the option obtainable to have a designer assist the author by formatting their work, and even adding graphics, with the copyright issues addressed by the print house, and not the individual author. All of this can be proof read electronically, taking the method down to hours in lieu of days.
